Biography
Dr. Morton joined the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy in 2003 and become course director for gross anatomy January 2006.
Dr. David Morton resides in Utah where he serves on the faculty at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Morton earned his bachelor degree (BS) in Zoology, his masters of science degree (MS) and doctorate (PhD) in anatomy. Dr. Morton teaches medical students as his full-time profession.
He is a member of the American Association of Anatomists (AAA) where he serves on the Advisory Committee of Young Anatomists. He illustrates anatomy and histology pictures using both ink and computer. Dr. Morton has created a vast library of illustrations, prosection images and osetological images. As a result, he is able to create course content for paper or web without copyright issues.
To address the concern of diminishing hours for medical gross anatomy courses Dr. Morton co-authored a cadaver dissection guide for medical schools (Dissection Guide for Human Anatomy, Churchill Livingstone, 2004 Morton, Peterson, Albertine) that streamlines dissection and addresses the truncated curriculum problem.
Dr. Morton is currently investigating the use of active learning exercises in the class room to promote analytical reasoning. He is also working on publishing an anatomy atlas, an anatomy text, a histology text and the second edition of the dissection guide.
Dr. Morton is also a member of the Global Health Education Consortium (GHEC).
Dr. Morton is an internationally recognized author and lecturer. He is considered to be a foremost authority on Garcinia mangostana, the mangosteen fruit, and its scientific research. Dr. Morton currently resides in Utah with his wife Celine and their four children.. Dr. Morton corresponds with scientists all over the world dealing with mangosteen research.
